Abstract



Background: The color is a kind of the source of life. It reaches into the human deep soul. It lets people 
chase back to the memory of the long culture .Color are everywhere. It always in uences our life also. We do 

not need to open the eyes, we can feel the color sometimes. We can also view the ancient color environment 

through our memory. Color can also be imagined through the four seasons of the atmosphere. These color 
messages will in uence our minds, temperament and feelings. It strongly impacts our life and health.



Contents: Our living environment is full of colors. In the development of Chinese culture, the colors created 

a brilliant living environment and architecture. The five elements theoretical basis became the Chinese 
culture. It strongly impacted the ancient five color theory and form the five element-colors theory. How 

to conclude the  ve element-colors theory to affect our ancient architecture and applying to the modern 

architecture is the content of this article.


Methods: Regarding to the  ve element-colors theory of residential environment used in ancient Chinese, 

searching and compared their color factors to use in the modern architecture. The use of induction, literature 
collection, the author's modern architectural color awareness and experience, are the research methods.



Applications: Apply these five element-colors theory to the modern architecture. Provide the consumer 
and the professional practitioners on the use of healthy building for color selection. It not only can echo 

the Chinese culture of natural principles of environmental protection, but also be able to promote the color 

feature of long history of Chinese culture.
