始創於1993年，在全中國引起轟動反應，聲名遠播海內外，從2007年起，“南國書香節”與“羊城書展”進行資源整合，開始二展合一

“南國書香節”始創於1993年，當時在全國引起轟動效應，聲名遠播海內外。

　從2007年起，“南國書香節”與“羊城書展”進行資源整合，開始二展合一；2008年，廣東省委宣傳部開始提出了“南國書香節，閱讀嘉年華”的主題，並將其作為“書香嶺南”全民讀書活動的重要內容，統籌各方力量和資源共同參與，特別是充分調動新聞媒體的積極性，成功營造了市民愛書、讀書、尚書的良好氛圍，為廣大市民和讀者提供一場精彩快樂的文化盛宴，把“書香嶺南”全民讀書活動進一步推向高潮，獲得了社會的廣泛贊譽。
